William Carter Stubbs letter, 1896 Nov. 11.

Letter from William Carter Stubbs to President Thomas D. Boyd of Louisiana State University. Thomas Duckett Boyd, younger brother of David French Boyd, was born on Jan. 20, 1854 to Minerva French and Thomas Jefferson Boyd of Wytheville, Virginia. He received his formal education at Louisiana State University, graduating in 1872 with a master of arts degree. He married Annie Fuqua, sister of Governor Henry Fuqua, March 1882. William Carter Stubbs was a native of Gloucester County, Va. In 1872, he became professor of chemistry at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Auburn University) and six years later, state chemist of Alabama. He married Elizabeth Saunders Blair. In 1885, Stubbs was made director of Louisiana Sugar Experiment Station, New Orleans, La. He later became state chemist and geologist of Louisiana. He and his wife made genealogical notes and copied public records. Stubbs died in 1924. ...
